Fourth Of July Tomatoes!

My family and I had a great 4th of July weekend complete with Family, Food, Fun and Fireworks!

Another great addition to this year's celebration was picking the first ripe tomatoes.

Appropriately named, these are my Fourth Of July Tomatoes. The first tomatoes actually ripened on the 4th of July and we plan to eat them today. They are small to medium sized tomatoes.

I am pretty excited that the beginning of tomato harvest is now here. The rest of the tomato varieties are coming on as well so July promises to be full of tomatoes! Perfect for Tomato Tuesdays!

Progress on This Year's Tomato Plants for Tomato Tuesday

Things have gotten way too busy for me and my family lately. So much so that it has been hard to post regularly here. At least I have Tomato Tuesday to bring me back to Garden Desk
no matter what else is going on.

The garden is giving us an unlimited supply of squashes and cucumbers right now, but no ripe tomatoes yet.

Usually by this time my extra early tomatoes are ripe. My earliest red tomato in the past was on June 5th. This year I'm hoping that my "Fourth of July" tomatoes will at least live up to their name. Here is what they look like now:

The rest of the tomato plants are even smaller with almost now tomatoes forming yet.

All of them were planted late this year due to our unusual spring weather. Lastly I have my Japanese Tomato Ring tomatoes that were not even planted until June. They are a little bigger than when I showed them last week.

Even though all of these tomato plants are smaller than normal for this time of year, I still have high hopes that they will give us great tomatoes when they do finally ripen.
