The peas that I planted in gutters under my grow lights are up and doing great!
Actually, not all of them are doing great yet. I guess my watering was uneven because the pea plants on one side are much taller than on the other side.
I think the shorter ones will catch up to the others in time.
If you didn't see my first post, the idea behind planting them in a gutter is that I can slide the whole thing out into a trench in the garden where the peas will finish their growing. This way I don't have to worry about the pea seeds germinating in the cold outdoor soil, but can still plant the peas early.
This is the first time I've tried this so I don't know how long they can stay in the gutter before transplanting them outside. My biggest concern is that they will need to go out soon and this week's weather is unseasonably cold. I don't know if I can get them hardened off well enough going from a 65 degree basement to a 35 degree garden. I'm still deciding what to do.
I will think about it as I'm transplanting lettuce seedlings and my early tomato seedlings. It is also time to start seeds for just about everything else I'm growing. But since its cold outside, this weekend will be a great time to do that. After posting this, I will be spending the afternoon with our baby plants and seeds. (and thinking about what to do about the peas!)
Have a great weekend!
