I finally got around to doing something that should have been done this winter -
cleaning and disinfecting my old cell packs, plant trays and pots.
Yesterday's weather was pretty nice, so I was able to do this outside.
See the reflection in the water of the tiny tree leaves? Spring really is emerging!
It is good to recycle planting pots from previous years, but you should wash them with bleach in order to kill any plant diseases or tiny insect eggs hiding in the old soil debris.
I had to scrub like crazy because I had stored the old pots outside all year long.
Even though these were a mess, the good news is that I got them for free and I rescued them from the landfill. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, right?
A new upscale apartment building put in new flowers and landscaping and then put all of the pots out for the garbage! The above picture is less then half of what I got from them.
There are a lot of 4 inch round and square pots complete with the trays that hold them. Now when I pot up my tomato and other vegetable and flower seedlings, I won't have to make newspaper pots like I did last time.
Maybe in a month or so the greenhouse will actually look organized with all of these potted plants! I hope so. I have so much transplanting to do in the coming days and weeks. So much work, but so much fun!
Happy Spring Gardening!
